Post McChristians

McChristian
1. A Christian who bases her beliefs upon what her church or family taught her and never seriously questions or reflects on her beliefs.
2. A Christian who strives to believe exactly the same things as other Christians she identifies with.

Maybe if we start an Internet meme it will one day be in a real dictionary.

You could stretch that analogy to almost any belief system.

I think it's especially true in our culture with the evangelists turning out the mass produced religion (Creationism, born-again, Republican equals Christian, right-wing bullcrap, the power of Jesus's name, ect). But yes, there are probably a lot of McMuslims in Islamic countries. I don't know enough about Hindus, Buddhists, or tribal religions to make claims about those, though.

I was thinking non-religious beliefs too.

Yep. People can blindly follow any belief.

I don't think #2 is necessarily a bad thing. If I wanted to be a Christian, I would have to get over my skepticism towards the Trinity and a variety of other things. But the process of overcoming the self to identify with something greater needn't be a bad thing.

Freethinker or idiot?

Am I the only one that hates labeling anything "Mc"?

Perhaps it's because my last name begins with it and it means "son of".

It's a play on McDonald's mass produced food. McChristians believe in mass produced religion.
