We can always ask Bill Clinton to define "is" for us.

Yep, but since he doesn't exist we've just defined 'God' out of existance. "And He promptly vanished in a puff of logic". Yaaaay!

something like that.
You're thinking of the riddle of Epicurus, I believe. From Positive Atheism:

Quote:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

first off "god" aint required by law to be all good,
so saying that evil exists therefore god doesn't
is a mistaken assumption, you may be "god"
to your 1 year old baby, that doesn't mean
you have to be all good or perfect, just able to
create and maintane it.

second, "evil" is relative, the muslims in Guantanamo bay
being held incommunicado without any way to check
who they are or what they have done can be said
to be an evil deed done by Dubya, his take says
THEY are evil and the punishment fits their crime.

so evil is relative to the object , subjective to the
subject, one mans evil is another mans correct thing
to do.

also a doctor may amputate a limb to save the life
of the injured person, it may seem cruel or evil,
but without understanding the necessity you cannot
understand the resulting action.

so the concept of Karma is necessary in any theology otherwise
you cannot explain the discrepency in peoples births,
some rich and beautiful, other poor and crippled,
without a previous life that created the Karma
and results in your present life, then any theology without
Karma as a part of it's philosophy
has no answer, it least a sensible one.

Jamie_L: Check this thread for cross-reference: The Play

The concept of "evil" changes in that scenario.

Plus why should we let people suffer? I don't see how one follows the other?

If we don't understand what's good,

Who said we don't understand what is good?

If God is Good, "evil" isn't "evil", but why should it stop us from doing good from our perspective?
