Hold off on moving it to BC&H. Let me read through the Jesus puzzle, post my rebutle and evidence of support for that rebutle, and then attempt to make the next step in logic.

One other thing...
One other thought before I go off and explore the Jesus puzzle.
Even if Jesus was an invention of a religious zealot, how in the world did faith in Jesus spread so quickly? Nero was persecuting established groups of Christians in Rome, 1400 miles by plane from Juresalem, 30 years after the "supposed" death of Jesus. |

Do you want to know the lives of the Gods that Jesus is a copy of? Try "Dionysos: archetypal image of indestructible life" by Carl Kerenyi And "The Mysteries of Mithra" by Franz Cumont. You'll be able to see the Jesus myths sources for yourself. You might try Euripides "Bacchae" if you'd like to see where Luke lifted the story (and some dialogue) of Paul's conversion in Acts. |

What reason would anyone have for publishing the books of the Gospel? It certainly wouldn't make friends with the non-believing Jews; they'd cream you for blasphemy. It definitely wouldn't make you popular with the Roman government for declaring your alligience to a 'king' other than the emporer? Writing a book that made such bold claims was the equivical of suicide. |

Even if Jesus was an invention of a religious zealot, how in the world did faith in Jesus spread so quickly? The Emperor Theodosius the Great made it a capital offence not to be Christian. He banned Hellenism and took over all the temples. The devout "Pagans" were put to death by the Christians Nero was persecuting established groups of Christians in Rome, 1400 miles by plane from Juresalem, 30 years after the "supposed" death of Jesus. The term Christian during Neros reign was applied to the followers of the savior god Christna. The head of that religion was Apollonious of Tyana. |

However, that was almost 300 years after the death of Jesus. |

What reason would anyone have for publishing the books of the Gospel?
Those who backed the Gospels that were chosen by Constantine became rich and powerful. It certainly wouldn't make friends with the non-believing Jews; they'd cream you for blasphemy. It definitely wouldn't make you popular with the Roman government for declaring your alligience to a 'king' other than the emporer? Except it doesn't do that. It supports Roman civil law and condemns the Jews. Since it was written--in Greek the language of Rome- after the fall of Israel there was no problem. Writing a book that made such bold claims was the equivical of suicide. Nonsense, Rome was very tolerant of religion. |
