If it took 25 years why do they say it was all dictated in a cave?

The stgory is that Muhammad was given a revelation to dictate, in secret, by an angel, over 25 years (and the dictation was subsequently lost). Now even if that has no truth, it says all we need to know about those who cite it as solid ground for a religious belief.

Apparently the man visited a cave (unseen by the general public, of course) for the purpose of faithfully copying the dictation. I calculated it once at about two lines per day, iirc.

It bears much similarity with Joseph Smith, his spectacles and golden plates.

But since Mohammed was said to be traveling all over when was he supposed to be in that cave?
I too have noticed the similarity to Joseph Smith. But the Book of Mormon was produced at one time

Not according to some.

It's nothing to do with actuality. It's to do with credulity.

What is the likelihood that the split between Sunni and Shia had its roots in EARLIER theological or other disputes from the onset of Islam and the issue of succession of the caliphs was merely a secondary argument?
