And on lovely baths, which orthodox are we discussing? The orthodox has always been a broad church - like Francis of Assisi, Ambrose, Gregory and Benedict.

There have always been iterations and co-evolutions of beliefs - the invention of the idea of heresy can be understood as a power play to assert political control - and sources of money. The classic creation of a monopoly of entrance to eternity - why did Constantine grumble on his death bed you better be right o the priests!

Quote:
Fiction is an imaginative form of narrative, one of the four basic rhetorical modes. Although the word fiction is derived from the Latin fingo, fingere, finxi, fictum, "to form, create", works of fiction need not be entirely imaginary and may include real people, places, and events. Fiction may be written or oral or may be presented as a film or in theater or on radio or television. Although not all fiction is necessarily artistic, fiction is largely perceived as a form of art or entertainment. The ability to create fiction and other artistic works is considered to be a fundamental aspect of human culture, one of the defining characteristics of humanity.

[edit] Elements of fiction

Even among writing instructors and bestselling authors, there appears to be little consensus regarding the number and composition of the fundamental elements of fiction. For example:
  • "Fiction has three main elements: plotting, character, and place or setting."(Morrell 2006, p. 151)(Writer's Digest Handbook of Novel Writing 1992, p. 160)
  • "For writers, the spices you add to make your plot your own include characters, setting, and dialogue." (Bell 2004, p. 16)
  • "Contained within the framework of a story are the major story elements: characters, action, and conflict." (Evanovich 2006, p. 83)
  • " . . . I think point of view is one of the most fundamental elements of the fiction-writing craft . . ." (Selgin 2007, p. 41)
As stated by Janet Evanovich, "Effective writing requires an understanding of the fundamental elements of storytelling, such as point of view, dialogue, and setting." (Evanovich 2006, p. 39) The debate continues as to the number and composition of the fundamental elements of fiction. [1]

I thought everyone accepted except from possibly catholics and fundamentalists that there were myriad xianities.

The point is then where did they come from - is there a last common ancestor in a Jesus Christ or are they just "oriental cults" spread around the ane with no clear starting point except some relationships to Judaism and annointing and logos and simple lives and justice.

Yes a political struggle occurred which allowed an orthodox church to suceed, but that one split into eastern and western versions and other branches became celtic, coptic, nestorian, chinese etc.

But what is fiction in this huge morass of belief and feelings? You do not seem to be saying anything!
But, in post #91 you seem to understand exactly what fiction means.

This is my position so far.

1. The stories about Jesus in the entire NT are all false or fiction

2. Based on Justin Martyr, there were no named Gospels or epistles with the name Paul, Peter, James, John and Jude up to the middle of the 2nd century.

3. There was no orthodoxy but a multiplicity of diverse beliefs about Jesus and a philosophical entity called the Word or the Logos up to the middle of the 2nd century.

4. There was no character called Paul in the 1st century or before Justin Martyr who started any churches anywhere or preached any gospel of uncircumcision to anyone.

5. All the church writers who wrote about Paul and Peter together in Rome, and that there were letters with their names all wrote fiction.
