Arrow Movies that do NOT belong on IMDB's Top 250 list

IMDB - Top 250 List

Looking over the list, what movies do you feel should certainly not be on the list?

250 listings is a lot to sort through, so for my post I will just focus on the top 100. You can choose your picks from the whole list if you like. (Note that the rankings are based on user votes, of course.)

#1 - The Godfather: I guess it deserves to be there since it is considered by so many people to be a classic, but I felt it was overlong, boring, and flat.

#3 - The Godfather, Pt. II: ditto (except for the scene when Al Pachino stares blankly at Diane Keaton when she tells him she had an abortion--that's classic)

#4,5,9 - Lord of the Rings Trilogy: very good movies, but come on--the top 10?

#17 - The Usual Suspects: this totally baffles me. I don't find anything likeable about this movie. I knew who Keyser Soze was by the middle of the film, and that ruined the one quality I was at least hoping for--a good surprise ending.

#32 - The Matrix: a classic sci-fi actioner, but far from top 100 material.

#48 - L.A. Confidential: very entertaining movie, but not among the best 100 of all time.

#63 - American History X: some tense moments with a decent sad ending, but the film was dramatically limp.

#64 - Leon: very good action film for it's day, but nothing special.

#93 - Kill Bill Vol. 1: a highly entertaining revenge-flick, but very a far cry away from Tarantino's other works.

#97 - The Princess Bride: hell no. Someone get me a vomit bag.

#100 - Toy Story 2: huh? A decent animated film and a good sequel, but the original was much more interesting and unique (and funnier).

It is a common trait for movies in the IMDb to be rated very highly immediately after they come out, and to "settle down" to a more reasonable rating after a few years have passed.

This is because the ratings on the IMDb are determined by user votes, and immediately after a movie comes out you get a huge number of dweebs jumping onto the system and voting it 10's because "It's the bestest movie ever!" (at least until the next movie comes out and becomes the bestest movie ever).

The ones that don't belong (only counting the movies I've seen):

19. Pulp Fiction - good movie, but very overrated
26. Silence of the Lambs - lame screenplay, though great acting
27. It's A Wonderful Life - A Christmas Story craps better movies
32. The Matrix - I wish Keanu would have taken the other pill; lame plot with neat fX
43. Fight Club - interesting, but not 43rd best of all time
63. American History X - Ed Norton ruined this movie by demanding more screen time so he could shoot for an Oscar; his brother in the movie was neglected
81. Braveheart - good, but overrated (I'm not considering that the success of it allowed him to make Passion )
93. Kill Bill - just saw it, liked it, but not 100 best of all time by any means

105. Princess Mononoke - average anime
109. The Graduate - doesn't stand up well to time
145. Back to the Future - good, but not that good
166. Magnolia - disappointing and overrated
170. Lost in Translattion - good, but overrated
185. Mulholland Dr. - great lesbian scene, but not a good movie

212. Snatch - Mr. Madonna is not a good movie maker

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark

Well it has been two years since FotR was released and it's steady at #9. I remember it jumping all the way to #1 the first week it opened in theaters back in '01.

And The Matrix was released 5 years ago, and it's still in a very high spot. What movie better than that would apply to your dweeb-saying-bestest-movie-ever-right-after-it-opens idea?

Certainly the list changes frequently, but disregard that. Looking at the list as it currently is, what do you believe doesn't belong there?

248 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

243 Beautiful Mind, A (2001)

236 Good Will Hunting (1997)

228 Beauty and the Beast (1991)

222 Untouchables, The (1987)

218 Minority Report (2002)

214 Others, The (2001)

206 Rain Man (1988)

161 Gladiator (2000)

159 Almost Famous (2000)

137 Gone with the Wind (1939)

132 Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)

130 Shrek (2001)

125 Green Mile, The (1999)

124 Ben-Hur (1959)

120 Forrest Gump (1994)

92 Donnie Darko (2001)

88 Sixth Sense, The (1999)

81 Braveheart (1995)

76 Wo hu cang long (2000)

64 Léon (1994)

63 American History X (1998)

56 Saving Private Ryan (1998)

32 Matrix, The (1999)

29 American Beauty (1999)

27 It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

These are the most glaring to me, they don't belong there or should be rated much, much lower. I've left out the big fantasy trilogies(LOTR, IJ, SW), with the exception of Jedi of course, because although most have been overrated, and I don't particularly like them, I believe they should probably be included, at more modest positions.

I haven't seen everything on the list either, I'm sure there are more I'd remove.

Shawshank Redemption- #2? I love that movie, but no way it's the second best ever made.

The Matrix- I think it is overrated, so I definitely don't agree with that one.

American History X- I thought the ending was way too predictable and a major letdown.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade- I thought this movie was entertaining, but it wasn't that great.
