I posted an exception to this purported Josephan rule in post #49 of this thread, from the War, and then decided to search the Antiquities. Below, then, are some examples of Josephus listing the family relationship of a person without a grammatical antecedent consisting of either description or name. I have so far searched only the first eight books of the Antiquities.

Antiquities 1.6.5 §148:

I will now treat of the Hebrews. The child of Phaleg of Heber was Ragau….
Antiquities 1.11.5 §205:

This [the daughters of Lot] did, so that human kind might not utterly fail; and they bare sons, that by the elder being Moab, which denotes one derived from his father....
Antiquities 5.9.4 §336:

For Obed in the Hebrew dialect signifies a servant. The child of Obed was Jesse.…
Antiquities 6.12.6 §261:

But there escaped a child of Ahimelech, Abiathar by name.
Antiquities 7.14.4 §345:

Now the fourth son of David was a beautiful young man, and tall, born to him of Haggith his wife. He was addressed as Adonijah….
Either these instances break the rule or I have drastically misunderstood it.

Ben.

I would be interested in spin's response. Perhaps this will be sufficient motivation to bring him out of his self-imposed "retirement".
