I've tried that a few times over the years. Well, not those exact words, but an honest request to have him reveal himself to me in some way, with a promise that if he did I'd do my best to live as he wanted me to. Never got any reply. The only thing that ever happened was that once I started to feel just a tiny bit lightheaded from all the effort it took to willingly suspend my disbelief. If God exists and won't answer a prayer like that, he obviously doesn't care if we believe in him or not anyway.
