No one has addresses my question as to what proof there is that they were aware of the existence of the Gospel of Thomas. Granted, I could get off my ass and look for myself, but..

There's a ton of articles that speculate on why it was excluded but none of them mention any evidence showing that it was even known about. Irenaeus quotes HAPPILY lines that run parallel to the GOT, but his references to a Gospel ascribed to Thomas concerns the infancy gospel. Same with Hippolytus and Origen. I don't even think it was widely distributed at the time. Hot damn, I figured something out on my own. |
