Try watching D. James Kennedy or John Hagee.

One thing I can say.. I find myself listening to HUSH Limbaugh on occasion.. simply b/c I hold to the old saying.. "Know thy enemy"

also a few years ago I was hanging out on IRC #atheism... (can't remember if it was undernet or dalnet at the time) but a christian entered the room.. intoduced himself as being affilated with a christian radio station and invited a few of us to call into a talk show on atheism.. so I did..

I honestly can't remember what station it was.. or where.. (in the south somewhere)

It was quite an amusing if not frustrating experience at the same time..

I made a few good points about their misconceptions of who/what an atheist is.. until they started talking over me.. basically it was a setup to make atheists look bad "LIVE".

what does it say about your beliefs when you have to resort to trickery to make your beliefs look better?

-cheers

Feel like I'm missing out now, any chance these stations transmit over the net too.

See what we have here is there is a difference between hating something and loathing something. You can hate something but really secretly enjoy part of it (the annoyance, the yelling at the radio )

Your lucky Valdemar, you can turn it off. Down here you can't swing a cat without hitting a couple of dozen fundie Christians. Go west or east of here and it gets much, much worse. Hovind is a few hundred miles west of here.

Dr. Dino

And Hovind is not one of a kind. People down here eat shit like that up.

It sort of makes you wonder if a new prophet would go around overturning turntables and CD players, doesn't it?

Note: I'm a flat-out unbeliever, just so that's clear. It's just that the image of a white-robed, bearded prophet with a long wooden staff overturning radio stations responsible for bad music and misleading religious rhetoric (I may be an atheist, but I know what mainstream Christianity is all about, and it's not what most of those radio stations are about) is just delightful.

Sure. Try these:

Christian Research Institute
Catholic Answers

Catholic Answers has a searchable archive. Try searching for "atheist" or "atheism" for the show I mentioned.

Yeah- and when Jesus is done, the DJ turns around, looks at him, and says, "Gandalf?" I'd like to think he'd go after Falwell and Pat Robertson before he even looked at the radio stations...

Back when I was travelling to concerts all the time, I saw dozens of shows throughout the SE USA. I'd always get sick of listening to music so I'd search for xian radio stations. I can't listen to xian music. Except for a few rousing Xmas songs, I think xian music is awful. When I would find a preacher I'd listen to him. It could be scary or absurd, but I usually found it quite entertaining. So Valdemar, I would say that I definitely listen to the crap also...

I feel for you Starboy. I travel to Tallahassee occasionally and get seriously disgusted when all that I can pick up on the radio, somewhere around Perry and southwards , and all the way to where you can even begin to pick up any Tampa stations, is super Fundy crap. I mean not even good stuff even for fundies.

Try and find a good football game and all you can listen to is the Dolphins. What is wrong with these people?

So I take along some cassettes of old time radio programs.

If it werent for NPR I would probably never turn the radio on.

Yeah, but I wished I had turned it off tonight.

Let's see... How did it go...

(paraphrased)

"When you get a newspaper in the morning, do feel like you can't wait to open it and read the good news? No? Why is it always bad news? Well, friends, it's because this is a fallen world and we are all evil inside. We have sinful nature. It is in our genetic code to be sinful. There is not a man on the planet who is not without sin. That's why the newspaper is full of bad news."

Huh?

I thought the newspaper was full of bad things because... well... it's NEWS. Which means that it deviates from the norm. Not to say that there aren't good things in the paper or neutral things.

As Mr. Carver says from the James Bond movie "Tomorrow Never Dies:" There's no news like BAD news
