all those "discussion not 20 questions" folks can add me to there hate list. would the hypothetical Jesus have been crucified by the Romans, in the nude? And is there any evidence for this. oh yea; and is there any support for that loin cloth being a latter add in. Basically; since cruficition seems to me to be a "let's make an example of this guy and humiliate him" they would have stripped jesus entirely before finishing him off, else why bother with teh eleborate death; might as well shank him then and there and be done with it. I searched found nothing. i googled; and ended up crying myself to sleep. so maybe you guys can help me. |

If it happened at all, it happened 2000 years ago. History gets distorted. E.g., half the stuff that Buddha allegedly said probably never happened.

Re the crucifixion, for all we know now it was just a weekend S/M party that went awry when jesus forgot the safe word. You can't take this stuff seriously, deary, or your head may explode. |

<Jen looks to extensive book collection for Roman Crucifixion (specifically Crucifiction) Handbook. Must have loaned it out. Sorry.>

Interesting speculation... about Roman crucifixions in general. I note, though, that you're going for logic on the part of the Romans during that time period. While they may well have leaned that way, there's a fair bit of history suggesting they placed some value on sheer entertainment. In my opinion, while humiliation would likely have been a goal, they might not have crossed their own line of not offending the sensibilities of society by disregarding proper decorum in public. When a man was crucified, he was usually stripped naked. See

Crucifixion. The pictures of Jesus on the cross date from centuries after the alleged event. The loincloth comes from the artists' imaginations. |
