Airborne Ranger was amazing on the Commodore 64. What an advanced game for its time.

A Microprose productions list reads like a list of the best games of all time (although I have no idea about the flight sims)

Civilisation
Pirates!
Railroad Tycoon
Colonisation
Master of Magic
Master of Orion
X-COM
Sea Rogue

I don't even want to think about the combined number of hours I've sunk into all those. Jesus, now I'm gonna have to dig up all those old disks or download them from some abandonware site or something. Still haven't worked the junk out of my system, those things were so goddamn addictive.

I'm this close to wetting myself with excitement if this is true

One of my favorite games on the Amiga was Railroad Tycoon. Too bad the second one sucked so bad.

Maybe we should celebrate with a round of Civ II MGE ...

Eh guys?

My favorite game PERIOD... Civ.. though Microprose was destroyed after they got bought/sold out a few times.. Last time was Infogrames?

Anyway, they did mess up the Civ III after that... hurried... no real core that made the name for Microprose. The decisions were made by the big corporate shots...

Didn't Microprose make Darklands? It was bug-ridden when released, but tons of fun when all the patches were released. It is the most open-ended RPG for its time, and the character creation process has never been matched. I would pay $100 for a remake with new graphics.

On that note, I got Civilization for Windows when it was new, and I have to play a game every once in a while.

Finally, where is Colonization?? Bryan Reynolds gets his feet wet with that game, which has inspired enthusiasts to attempt similar strategy game gameplay. (The most annoying thing was figuring out which villages of natives offered what skills and would barter for what goods.)

Abandonware??? Are those games downloadable from somewhere? My son would probably love to play Civ I! Man, the hours of my life spent watching Settlers crawl about the map....

There's a whole bunch of abandonware sites on the net (www.the-underdogs.org is a good one, or just search for 'abandonware [game title]' and you'll get a million results) that have a whole bunch of the great old games free for download. I think most of them aren't precisely legal, but considering most companies don't even sell them at all anymore, there's not really much of an ethical problem as I see it. And considering the game companies aren't really losing money from it and really just need to set good defence of copyright precedent, most of them don't care and many have come out and formally put their software in the public domain. Unfortunately Sierra and Lucasarts stuff is hard to find, but I think Microprose is fairly easy. And if they've gone bellyup, then there's nobody to really care anyway.

I bought a copy of Colonization for Zoe quite awhile back. Unfortunately, we couldn't play it, as it wasn't supported by anything over win95, or something. Very disappointing.

If I haven't already given it away, then anyone here with an OS that'll support it is welcome to the disk. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll take the time to hunt it down.
