Default Muslim Cartoons

I am not sure what forum to post this in, so maybe a mod could help me out.
I know this may seem like water-under-the-bridge to some, but here goes.

The point was made clear in the cartoon show: South Park.
If people continue to refrain from speaking their minds, even if people are going to kill them for it, then why think freedom of speech exists at all. Where does one draw the lines on what should be said and what shouldn't be said. Don't get me wrong, there are some things that shouldn't be said at funeral and such, but that's not the same. If someone wants to make fun of a religion, then that person should be more than free to do so. What is the harm? Is Islam truely about peace? Look at the reaction(s) to the cartoons and the answer will become clear. Don't refrain from speaking your mind.

There is no absolute freedom of speech. Every country restricts freedom of speech to some extent. Also speech can also be a weapon. When you use weapons on someone, very often you will get retaliation.

I think that muslims and Christians who get offended by cartoons are fascist slugs, and they stink. Who are you going to retaliate against based on my speech?

Yes, because we all know people don't kill people: words kill people.

That kind of mentality, when put into practice, is dangerous. Restriction of a man's ability to think and speak for himself can only lead to doubleplusungoodcrimethink and the state dictating what may or may not be discussed. The 1st amendment was written to allow every man, woman and child, no matter what political or religious afiliation they're under, the right to speak their mind and discuss issues without fear of harrassment or death from others. It forms the entire basis of every true democracy and republic in existence.

Remember kiddies: your 2nd amendment protects your 1st. Always be prepared to fight for your rights when they are violated by those who wish to dictate your way of life.

Well one, you are posting anonymously. Very brave.
Two, you are too much of a nobody for anyone to care what you say.

No state restricted cartoon network from broadcasting what they wished. Noone is restricting what anyone can think. But insult and offend other people and you may get a response. And the 1st amendment only gives you the right to speak your mind to an extent and only prevents the US government from restricting that right under certain circumstances.

And you are correct. Your rights are only as strong as your ability to defend them.

The retaliation should utilise the same medium. If I have an argument with someone I don't expect my windows to get kicked in regardless of how offensive what I am saying might be. The same is expected of me in return.

Obviously not since you have responded. But thanks for not setting fire to the place.

Default Mod Note

My special super-duper mental powers are giving me visions of a future flame-fest. Let's not let my prophesy come to pass.

That's not true. It all depends on who you are having an argument with and what the argument is.

I mean one argument might lead to a lawsuit while another might lead to a drive by.
