That is true, but the gospel authors often show things Jesus telling coming true later.

How is this more likely than the destruction of Jerusalem not being mentioned because it had not happened yet?

When was the Temple destroyed, Toto?

But Peter wanted this thread to be about questions, not discussion.
I see, now that you have responded the discussion is closed?

What did Paul know about Jesus? He doesn't record any prophecies by Jesus.

The Temple was destroyed in 70, but there was enough left of Jewish nationalism to mount another revolt.

Discussions are never closed, especially when there are no clear answers. The discussion may be split off.

Paul doesn't really record anything as far as we know. He wrote letters though, and some even survived for us to read (though I understand you deny this).

Another revolt that did not result in the destruction of the Temple to which Jesus referred, correct?

Jews or, more specifically, Jews who had been cast out of Jerusalem? Not necessarily, but I do think his audience knew such people and knew what had happened. Of course, I generally accept the common dating of Mark to around the time of the event in question.

No answers? Or do they come in another thread?

I would like answers to the answerable questions, and I would like the unanswerable questions ("Is the post-Jewish War dating of the Synoptic Gospels due to a Christian bias, a secular bias, or to the flatulence of Westcott and Hort one day at Cambridge, or....?") to be left by the wayside.

What should be put forward in this thread is appropriate material for a FAQ.

And I'm not the one with all the answers.

I have a few questions about the "Lord."

There is no mention of the divine name Yahweh in the LXX or the NT. It looks to me like all references to the name Yahweh in the LXX were replaced with the title “Lord.” I can see in verses like Romans 10:9-13 and Romans 14:8-11 that some authors were (or at least ‘one author was’) completely unaware of the god behind the title.

So my questions are:
  1. Who did the author of Romans 10 and 14 think the “Lord” was?

  2. What role did the mysterious “Lord” character play in the development of Jesus myths?

  3. Did the Greeks invent Jesus in order to bring meaning to the “Lord?”

A FAQ would be a great idea. Maybe even a Wiki.

OK.
How is it you (and you can be just representative if you like) can place the gospel of Mark as early as 65AD (presumably advocating mark 13 as a later interpolation?) but you can't place it as early as say, 40 AD?

What specific facts and evidence makes you say 65 AD is the earliest possible date?

Dear Jesus, this question is consuming all our threads.

I place Mark between 70 and 73 CE. The "65 to 80" waffle is a conflation of consensus opinions.

I suppose, since you and Riverwind are pressing me on this point, that it deserves a new thread. I can't expect getting much love for my opinion on Mark's date, but I will expect some respect for it being more reasonable than any other similarly narrow range.
