Ok, forget about the Etheopian link.

Did the High Priests lie about having anything inside the temple, or was there a fake arc? I'm looking at the middle of the story, not the end....

Isn't it easily plausible that some religious leader wrote the tablets of the law, built an ark, placed them inside, and down the ages became known as the prophet Moses? Just because there may not have been a historical personage with the birth-name of "Moses", who led thousands of Hebrews out of Egypt, doesn't mean there wasn't someone who wrote the tablets of the law and placed them inside an ark...
