I wonder whether if we were living in biblical times we would see texts with prophets predicting the destruction of New Orleans. After the fact, I mean.

Wait, there is a report saying that an existing Clintonian report classified 2 of the top 3 disasters that would hit America as a terrorist attack on New York and a natural disaster in New Orleans. Makes me wonder, as I've only heard of this report after Katrina. Of course sometimes prognosticators get lucky or see the writing on the wall.

kind thoughts,

Yeeeeee Doggy!!!!! Burn him god! Burn him! Roast Mr. Funk in the eternal fire of your unconditional love! Let him feel his flesh melt from his bones! Punish him for arriving at wrong conclusions!

Let him be tortured for all eternity for not getting it right! That low down dirty Funk! How dare he for subscribing to erroneous doctrines!

I know you love him god, but he needs to be punished with unspeakable misery for subscribing to a worldview that makes sense to him! Burn him alive god! Burn him!

In Jesus's name, Amen.

Academic Credentials

A.B., Butler University
M.A., Butler University
B.D., Christian Theological Seminary
Ph.D., Vanderbilt University

Look at all of these creditials, he was just mistaken, just got it wrong, on his studied and credentialed position whereby he wrote numerous books and founded the Jesus Seminar based entirely upon an open and hostile denial of the entirety of Christianity.

The issue is the intent of the heart, God gets to strip away all of the fluff and get to the "heart" of every matter. This poor soul probably never changed his heart a bit.
What heart that one shows.

That's not prognosticating, that's engineering.

Who holds Funk in greater contempt: the orthodox for his belief that Christ was a only a man, or the mythicists for the same reason?

I don't know of any mythicists who are consigning Funk to (mythical?) hell. Doherty's review of Honest to Jesus is respectful, although he disagrees.

Nothing like a straw-man, eh?

This speaks to my own criticism of Funk and the Jesus Seminar in general: they failed to deal with the question of mythicism.

No, it denies the suggestion that mythicists hold Funk in "contempt". There appears to be no basis for this claim whatsoever so 'straw man' would seem to be an appropriate description. The only contempt for the Jesus Seminar that I've seen has come from the "orthodox"/conservative/fundamentalist crowd. As far as I can tell, mythicists like Doherty consider the Jesus Seminar to be no different from the "orthodox"/conservative/fundamentalists in that they start with the assumption of a historical figure and procede from that point.

Well, it is for the failure to respond to this charge that I hold the Jesus Seminar in contempt.

Scholars, not conservative, hold them in contempt for often being sensationalist and having questionable methodology.

You know, we Christians aren't the only evil people in the world.
