But there really was a Santa Claus, or better, many Santas:

"Most likely a mythical modern retelling of a mystic group of hallucinogenic mushroom-eating Siberian shaman who wore red and white outfits, snuck in through the chimneys of villagers and distributed the sacred mushroom Amanita Muscaria. Other associations from the popular myth easily fall into place. The reindeer is the animal most associated with Amanita as it is a popular dish to them. Amanita tends to form a symbotic relationship with spruce or pine trees which are used for Christmas trees. It is also said that the Siberian shaman could fly, but probably not physically. However, Amanita often gives the sensation of flying."

This post is a FALLACY. It is founded on the EQUIVOCATION OF EXCLUDED MIDDLES.

Santa Claus is a being who can fly through the air by magic. NOBODY has the ability to fly through the air by magic, so the Santa Claus story is clearly A LOGICAL PARADOX.

Therefore, there could NOT have been a historical Saint Nicolas, and believing that is nothing more than an APPEAL TO RED SCOTSMAN fallacy.

It's hard to know when something is a parody.

Again, you are promoting YOUR OWN FALSE DICHOTOMIES.

The existence or non-existence of Santa Claus has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the "historical" Jesus.

You seem not to understand the difference between an erroneous CLAIM and a FALSE DICHOTOMY.
No, YOU seem NOT to UNDERSTAND the DIFFERENCE between an ERRONEOUS claim and a false DICHOTOMY.

In fact, you SEEM not EVEN to UNDERSTAND what a DICHOTOMY is.

You keep SAYING that things you REFER to are FALSE DICHOTOMIES, but NOT once, in ANY of those CASES, have YOU SHOWN that the DEFINING elements of a FALSE DICHOTOMY are PRESENT.

No one is arguing that Siberian shamans magically flew through the air.

I said nothing about St. Nicolas, of whom I know nothing.

My point is that the legendary character of Santa Claus could have a basis in history.

Please be rational, now.

<edit>

The HJ theory is indeed a logical fallacy.

A figure of history is derived from reliable sources of history but the "historical" Jesus is derived from unreliable sources of myth.
