What would America look like if the icecaps melted and the water level rose 10 feet?
I've been looking for pictures of what the earth would look like if the polar icecaps melted. I've look all over the Internet and I still cant find anything, so I'm hoping that someone here will be able to point me in the right direction. I know that there are scientific maps out there of what the earth would look like if the icecaps slowly melted and the water table rose. Do you rember the opening scean in the movie Waterworld? It showed exactly what I was looking for. |

If you want to see the effect on the US just get a map and colour in the low lying areas blue, like Florida and much of the southern states, most of California, Michigan etc. Amen-Moses |

mmmmm....Jeanne Tripplehorne.......WET!!
And what a ship! The cat' that the mariner lived on was cooler than (the) K.I.T.T. of Knight Rider fame... On the science topic-- you really can't cover the entire land-mass in water. For one thing-- although it takes a bit of imagination to visualize-- the deep ocean floor is 'depressed' by the mass of water above it, which contributes to a hydrostatic (and an attendant 'magma-static') 'lift' to the continents. Another thing: I am approx. 700 feet above sea level in Northern Illinois, USA. Got that much water? Now in an ice-age some fair percentage of seawater is converted to snow-'n'-ice on the continents. The removes some of the wieght from the seabed, and puts it on top of the 'floating' bodies... |
