This is all very entertaining. I'm glad I haven't stopped hanging around here.

We probably won't see any more of XKV8R. He was only here sleuthing out Charles Gadda and that done made a gloating swansong.

Dear XKV8R.

Your log against the "cyber-bullying" of "Charles Gadda" is impressive but very one dimensional. I simply seek another dimension to your own presence in cyberspace (which includes here) by which I can assure myself that your agenda is as pure as the wind-driven snow.

I appreciate the response.
But we all know
that it's all about agendas.
And I dont know yours.
I know that it is "Anti-Charles Gadda".
But that's the extent of it.
One dimensional.
I am curious.
That's all.
Most are.

My agenda at least is open:
'christian bullying'? lol
was commissioned 312 CE

Best wishes,

Pete

I think you can glean XKV8R's "agenda" from his website. I think a big part of that agenda was getting a PhD from UCLA in spite of being dogged by an anonymous internet critic.

In my reference to the "as pure as the wind-driven snow" I was of course referring to the anti-"Charles" Sandbox agenda. A coin generally has two sides and an edge, and any ancient historian or archaeologist will tell you that numismatists are curious people. We do not have all the data (yet).

Golb defends son; scholars trade base insults

Quote:
Dead Sea Scrolls scholar defends son in identity theft megillah

. . . "Raphael, my son, is very devoted to my research. He realized years ago that there was an effort to close the door on my opinions. And so he started debating bloggers who were against me, using aliases. That's the custom these days with blogs, as I understand it," Norman Golb said.

. . . Although researchers have condemned Raphael Golb's alleged acts, some scholars in Israel accept Norman Golb's contention that some of the most prominent Dead Sea Scrolls academics do silence their opponents. . . .

Thumbs up

Quote:
The defendant’s father, Dr. Norman Golb, is a professor at the University of Chicago. He has been a proponent of the viewpoint that the Dead Sea Scrolls found in the caves of Qumran had nothing to do with the buildings and settlement at the Qumran site. He believes that they were not the product of the Essenes, but of many different Jewish sects and communities of ancient Israel, who hid the scrolls in the caves at Qumran while fleeing from Jerusalem.

Aside from the identity theft issue, can anyone tell what is the impact if the scrolls were produced/hidden away by the Essene sect, or by others from more ancient Israel? What is the impacting historical import here.

Dr. Yaakov Tepler, head of the history department of Beit Berl Academic College and a student of Christianity scholar Prof. Joshua Efron, hews neither to Golb's opinion nor to the mainstream. Rather, he believes some of the Dead Sea Scrolls were written by Christians and says they allude to Jesus.

"I wrote an huge M.A. thesis that was to have become a doctorate about the Teacher of Righteousness - a central figure in the scrolls. I built 300 pages of reasons why I think the allusion was to Jesus. But today no place in Israel will allow me to publish it. It's just impossible to get an article published, not to mention a book, that expresses an idea that deviates from orthodoxy."

Tepler says he thinks the scholarly establishment is silencing a connection between the scrolls and Christianity.

"At some point it was decided that the scrolls are part of Jewish history, as a basis for Zionism and anyone who undermines this is seen as undermining Israel," he said.

Another nice conjectural theory of "christian origins" with (political?) twists. Has anyone actually conducted a survey or a review of "scholarly opinion" on the question of the relationship (if any) between the DSS and "early christianity"? And if so, when, and what was the consensus distribution?

The historical jesus is becoming very shady and attenuated. Unambiguous evidence (previously held by the "church") in respect of the Historical Jesus and his followers has been expected for over 1600 years, but has failed to manifest itself. The DSS were hailed as some sort of "missing link" in the big "christian picture" of the first century of the common era. But it appears that the tide is turning on this assessment; namely that the DSS have nothing to do with "early christianity". (Also see above).
