Perhaps it's because my last name begins with it and it means "son of".
Is this an example of the "only true scotsmen" fallacy?

I like the phrase, and think it could really catch on.

My uncle, who is Catholic like everyone else on my mom's side, calls a quick rite of reconciliation "McFesh".

I like it, but it would no doubt be tastier if it had bacon on it.
Unless it was McJewish, of course.

But I like it, too. I'll probably find ways to use 'McChristian' in conversation- with other freethinkers, anyway.

Just throwing another one out there:

Long-standing tradition in my family is to refer to 'spaghetti Christians.'

They're the ones who say:

"I'm a Christian because Jesus had great ideas, and I like church because people are all trying to do good, and Christianity is really a beautiful thing, even though I don't believe in the virgin birth or anything like that.

Oh, and I really like spaghetti too, so I must be Italian."

I'll have to add McChristian to the family vocabulary.

What about d) use male pronouns? Why is that not one of the solutions? And by the way, I think you should start a thread on it. (If you don't, I might have to actually start a thread, and that's almost unheard of.) It would be an interesting topic. I have never understood why almost everyone automatically assumes that it is sexist to use the male pronoun as the stock pronoun when you need the singular.
I'll see you here.

It's not sexist on a case-by-case basis. It is sexist when male pronouns are used exclusively, as was traditionally the case. Some of us try to point this out by using female pronouns generically. If male readers feel excluded by the feminine pronouns, it might help them to realize how consistent use of masculine pronouns effectively excludes women.
