Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in
waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the
frist and lsat ltteer are in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl
mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do
not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe and the biran
fguiers it out aynawy.


Just thought that it would be interesting.

There was a letter describing this phenomenon in New Scientist a while ago. I remember reading it. It didn't specifically say that only the first and last letter had to be correct - merely that the beginning and end of the word had to be correct.

Unfortunately I can't remember whether the letter was from someone at any particular English university, though - and it was a good couple of years ago so I don't still have the back issue...
