Default Santa Claus IS God.

(This is inspired by another thread, but seems to me to deserve its own thread.)

The descriptions of Santa Claus and God are typically such that they both have the same properties, and, of course, both are asserted to exist along with a good deal of nonsense that totally ignores reality and common sense. (For those interested in common sense, click here.) I’ll spare you a detailed description of God (which are typically both nonsensical and contradictory anyway; see link above), and instead focus on what is said about Santa Claus. "He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake, he knows if you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake," though, of course, the real message is to be good to receive a reward from the benevolent Santa, and avoid punishment from him (such as switches for your parents to beat you, or lumps of coal). Santa is beyond the limits of space and time, as he is able to traverse the entire world in a single night, visiting all and delivering presents to everyone to whom Santa desires to deliver presents. He is almost never directly seen (just like God in the Bible, as he reportedly appears to but few), but his presence is evident from his works. The supposed focus of his interests is humanity, for which he toils tirelessly.

I submit that this being beyond space and time, who knows all, and rewards the good and punishes the evil according to his own determination, is called "God" by many, and "Santa Claus" by others. This means that, since they are the same being, it naturally follows that the evidence for one is precisely the same as the evidence for the other. The ridiculousness of one is the same as the ridiculousness of the other. The reasons to reject belief in Santa are the same as the reasons to reject belief in God.

To reject one and not the other is to show an inconsistency, an unwillingness to apply the same standards of reasoning to one and the other. This can only be the result of bigotry and prejudice, as the impossibility of one is the same as the impossibility of the other.

Seriously. It's sad how many people reject the idea of Santa Claus on the flimsiest of arguments -- they caught their parents wrapping up presents marked "To Johnny from Santa," they never saw Santa even though they waited up all night for him...it's amazing how easily these skeptics cease to believe. How can they deny His existence when they've only ever NOT seen Him?! Why should Santa have to reveal Himself to every skeptic before they will believe, when we are told about him by great authorities from the past in the scripture of "The Night Before Christmas"? It's a total rejection of logic.

Of course, it's vital to remember which god is the boss:

Utter insanity, and worse, heresy!

Santa is Satan.

Consider the evidence:

1) Anagram names.

2) Both wear red.

3) Both live in extreme environments.

4) Both attempt to influence behaviour with material bribes (Toy trains vs. fiddles of gold, etc.)

5) And the number one piece of evidence... they are never seen together!

Now the real question is where the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy fall into this hierarchy.

Just imagine your child's eyes when, after a week of opening eggs and getting cool toys and surprises, the last one is empty.

That will give them a categorical lesson in Christianity.
