I don't care what anyone says, I think the Catholic Church is great. They can combine supernaturalism with reason, traditon with revolutionary spirit, amorality with virtue, and multipicity with unity. Let's just say two great religions go by the title "Roman."
Anyway, John Paul II probably won't last much longer. I was wondering about your hopes and fears from the next pope. Will he be a force for the kind of world you want, or the undesirable side of Catholic history? |

He's got all those new conservatives lined up.... ready to get another twit in the papal seat saying condoms are evil and the only way to stop aids is abstinence.

Apart from the nostalgia I have surrounding the current pope the actual pope I had real respect for was the "smiling" pope who died rather quickly. He was what a pope should be and he was ready to stamp out corruption within the church. Which reminds me to dig out my copy of In Gods Name and read it again.
Apparently it's a cardinal from Vienna who's in with a good shot this time round. |

I'm hoping for the first female pope. Then maybe the Catholic Church would do something about this birth control nonsense!

I think the doomsayers are scared to death (or ecstatic) about the prospect of this pope dying. I get the feeling they are convinced that the next pope will be the anitchrist. If he takes the name "Peter," watch for self-fulfilling prophecies.
No matter what, I think the next pope will be just as bad if not worse than this one. |

#267 ??? 111 Gloria olivae and #268 ??? In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End. Here is a link to the prophecy http://www.catholic-pages.com/grabbag/malachy.asp |
