Default Real discussion can help bridge misunderstanding

http://www.dailypress.com/features/r...,1237161.story

This is the title of a column by Tom Gilson.
Tom Gilson is the U.S. director of planning for Campus Crusade for .
Christ. He can be contacted through his web log at www.thinkingchristian.net.

Mr. Gilson writes 'Christians also gain from listening well' and ' One is because we're asking those who do not know our beliefs to take the time to understand us. They'll show us that respect much more readily if we show them the same.'

and he also writes 'Another reason is one that missionaries know well: in order to communicate effectively, you must understand the culture you're with. You must know its beliefs, values, and myths, as well as its language. Effective missionaries never cease this kind of learning.

Finally, there's a lot we can learn about people, about the world, and even about God through taking the time to listen.'

Would it surprise anybody that Mr. Gilson has banned me from commenting on what he writes? After refusing to tell me whether it was morally wrong to exterminate people without mercy, he now bans people he claims he wants to listen to.

http://www.haloscan.com/comments/tgi...0051027095616/

Such is the attitude of members of the Campus Crusade for Christ. Silence anybody who asks questions they do not want to answer - such as whether it is morally wrong to exterminate people without mercy.

Further news is that Tom Gilson thinks there is nothing morally wrong about God ordering one human being to exterminate others, as in Joshua 11:20.

And people are worried about Osama bin Laden!

Tom Gilson, of Campus Crusade for Christ, certainly is a hypocrite.

After posting a piece denouncing censorship, http://www.thinkingchristian.net/C22...718/index.html he banned me from his site, after claiming that he would write to me in private email first before doing so.

I guess Tom Gilson never could answer objections to Christianity.

For Google purposes and to set the record straight Tom Gilson did email me before banning me, but something went wrong with the emails.

I wonder if there are some chinks in the armour here that can be exploited!

I see morality as being rationally based - Rawls - a theory of justice - talks about the veil of ignorance and gives a rational basis to treating others as you would wish to be treated.

There are other comments on the blog about God being outside time and space - would xians have said that before Einstein? Is that an apologist reaction to the reality of physics?

The comments about xians being rational does not hold. If in an equation, you divide by zero, things go pear shaped. This is true of any argument, irrational elements destroy the whole argument!

Converting a senior person in CCC to kitten eating? Loverly!

I looked at the link which led to the discussion board. I notice that the webmaster has put a sticky at the top addressed to people from here, in which he attempts to justify his action.

In the thread below there remains some reasonably abrasive atheist comment from people who I have no reason to think are banned.

Perhaps Stephen and he have different ideas of what constitutes sufficient politeness on a discussion board.

I'm not too sure, having looked at the site, that the hypocricy charge stands.

I never insulted anybody. I was banned for asking questions, such as whether exterminating people without mercy was morally wrong. Tom refused to say that exterminating people without mercy was morally wrong.
