You tell me what I don't know, judge. Sure, you are the first one I met who thought he knew everything !

Like you ever heard the name ibn Taymiyyah before. Who do you think you are kidding ? Toto, spin, Earl, myself ? Why don't you do some digging and find out who the guy who said "The Sultan is the shadow of God on earth" was, and what he really thought, before you open up the yawner ?

Jiri
Jiri, you made a particularly weak argument. People constantly do that on here.
I doesn't make you wrong, it just makes your argument weak. I asked you how you equated the quote you provided with the claim you made.
Here is the quote again...'sixty years of of an unjust ruler is preferrable to one day of civil disorder'

It doesn't say what you wanted it to, and now you are upset cos I pointed that out.

Why would I want to impress you or Earl or Spin or Toto? What the fuck would be the point of impressing you or Spin or Toto or Earl?
Do you come here to impress people?

Default Jews and Romans

Paul blames the Jews for killing Jesus (1 Thess 2:14–15), so why is there any problem with him exalting Roman authority?

Paul was also a human being; so even if he did hold contradictory beliefs, does it really matter?

There is good reason to doubt that Paul wrote that.

Jon, have you actually looked into this issue? Just typing "thessalonians interpolation" in google is a good start.

Perhaps he did and, as a result, he then edited his original response.

Interpolation or not, I still see little reason to worry that Paul treated the authorities in Jerusalem different from the authorities in Rome.

Oh, also: Paul had a Masters degree in Marketing from the U of Tarsus; summa cum laude. A lot of his theology is just marketing, and he was good at it.

They say he was a tent maker. The word used really means canvas worker. Maybe he was in the business of erecting canvas billboards.

Is it not probable that Paul was merely being pragmatic when he spoke of submission to the authorities? If Roman agents were to come into possession of the letter it would give them reason to destroy both Paul and his new religion without restriction.

Maybe the archaeologists should be looking for Christian tent relics in the epoch that the nation of christians wandered in search of their basilicas and their holy land and their pigrimages thereto? Perhaps Eusebius was divinely inspired when he compares Constantine and Moses? BTW when is the ETA for this new Bart Ehrman Historical Jesus acceditation event?
