We don't have two retellings of the Moses story do we, in Jesus and Mohammed? Sounds like Bible Unearthed needs a sequel (or two?)

Default It Could Significantly Help

Hi gilly54,

Good point.

Let me clarify.

While atheism has been around since ancient times, we did need the Priest Meslier and the Baron Thiry to write works that gave it serious credentials among the intellegencia and ruling classes of Europe and the nascient United States. Thus the modernist concept of religious tolerance could be extended even to atheists. Open legal persecution of atheists stopped in the later half of the 19th century, as a result of the influence of these works, especially on scientists of the period.

A serious college professor speaking out and presenting a well-documented argument that Mohammed might be a myth will perhaps similarly lead to the expansion of tolerance of ideas in present day Islamic countries.

Warmly,

Philosopher Jay

Oh, I don't know about that. I like to think I came about my atheism through personal introspection and rational thought.

The fact that all the holy books warn believers against us non-believers, says that we've been around for quite some time and didn't need a couple of French guys to show us the light.
