Surely they are not a prime example of what it is to be an atheist?
Sorry I did not mean to offend anybody.

There are Protestants in Northern Ireland that throw parties whenever a Pope dies. Its all a matter of perspective.

The problem is, when he dies the cardinals will pick a new pope who will be a clone of this pope since he's stacked the cardinal ranks with those who closely agree with him.

Theism has very little to do with these perspectives.

Let a fart out now and again, it's good for your sensibilities.

Hey Ronin. Long time no see. I haven't been here for quite a while....a LOT going on - but mostly good stuff.

I saw the current pope live at Murrayfield stadium in 1982 when I was 15, we went with the school and I can honestly say it was a great day out. I always remember everytime he went to speak the whole stadium full of secondary school kids just screamed like he was a popstar, he honestly couldn't get a word in edgeways. He was humbled with that believe it or not and couldn't get over it.

I have very fond memories of that day, I found him to be quite charismatic in those days and genuinely liked him even though I was a non believer by that time just not expressing it.

Now he's just a shell of his old self and while I won't be crying when he does go, he was a part of my childhood so I'll feel something not quite sadness but not far away from it. It's not nice to look at him now, I certainly won't be cheering when he goes. They'll just elect another one in his place and it won't be the same, for me anyway, not that it means much now but you know what I mean.......

Not true at all alli. I saw him in Edmonton and really don't remember much about him but I did see alot of people that were quite touched that evening.

What I thought was funny is when he was escorded away by about 20 police officers on a motor bike. There was a sharp bump in the road and everyone of these bikes made a small jump in the air when they crossed it (the lead car was going to fast and they could not slow down, I suppose, so they had to make this sudden jump).

I personally think he will not see Xams.
My aunt has a saying: "After a certain age, a person is immortal".

I think the Pope has reached that age. They have been writng him off for years, and he's still around. I have a feeling he'll stick around for a while yet.

I can't help but give my respect to the guy. He's quite a character, speading pernicious, harmful delusions around for so many years - but he did it with style.

As an atheist, a human and an adult in some countries including my own, I hope people DON'T take my death seriously.

I feel a Life of Brian quote coming on:
Quote:
Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistle]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistle]

Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
