As a Geordie, I should point out that Joseph Swan invented the light bulb. I often went into the Mawson, Swan and Morgan shop in Newcastle. Closed now sadly.

Perhaps we really do need video of something before people will accept that their beliefs are false.

Of course, we have no video of Jesus (one could have been deposited at Qumran, but that would have been a miracle, and who believes in miracle), so perhaps the stories of Jesus are no more accurate than the stories of Edison.

Not to be rude, but I am a bit lost as to what your point is. The amount of people that followed him is part of the story.

If you assume that Zeus is the supreme God, that Ciclops exist and that Mermaids lure sailors into death, was Ulysses wise?

#214. ARGUMENT FROM COUNTERFACTUAL EVIDENCE: The reason I can't find any evidence for my claim is that you wouldn't believe it even if I could.

Edison did not invent the light bulb; its principles being known before him. What he invented was a light bulb that worked, and more importantly, was part of a larger system of centralized electricity distribution. We know this because Edison's important success is described at the time (1)in his own writings (2) in the testimony of those who worked for him (3) in corporate documents (4) in external sources. You will note that the only evidence for Jesus comes in (3) and much later.

Not Registered, in your effort to get us to say Jesus was a wise man so that you can go about your stated purpose of leaving it at that you have referenced television shows and Mel Gibson movies. You have not referenced scripture. You do read scripture don’t you? You know, the book which presents to the world your Savior and God, Jesus Christ? I think it odd that an apologist of your stature does not quote the Bible.

Please allow me to help you along toward leaving it at that by providing you with scriptures which speak of the wisdom of Jesus.

I Corinthians1: 24, 30. But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. ... But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom...

Colossians 2:2b-3. The mystery of God and of the Father, and of Christ; in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Ephesians 3: 10, 11. To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifest wisdom of God according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Luke 2: 40, 52 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.

Now you can no doubt hurry on toward leaving it at that secure in the knowledge that the Word of God will not fail to convict us of our sinful ways and bring us to the knowledge of the love of God in Christ Jesus. References available upon request.

Oh, yeah? Then how was Joseph Smith so wise?

The Bible, on the other hand, teaches that God lives in the sky. Much more reasonable.

Jesus, on the other hand, taught that men and women already are gods (John 10:33-36) and commanded us to be perfect like his Father (Matt 5:48). And John taught that when Jesus reappears "we shall be like him" (1 John 3:2).

Mormonism is nonsensical, but so is Christianity. The only reason Christianity seems more reasonable to you is because that's what you were raised with. From the outside, the story of Noah's ark is every bit as ridiculous as anything in Mormonism.

You missed this sentence in what I last posted:

That may all be true, but that doesn't explain where Edison got the wisdom from to invent the light bulb :-)

One thing I can't stand is an unsupported assertion, especially when I make it. So, I spent 3 minutes on Yahoo! and found a web page on Oprah's site which details several of the gifted children she has had on her show. Hell, Oprah herself was considered a "child prodigy" for her early speaking skills. I guess it really is raining child prodigies. You were right, NR!
