Ok, ok, I want one of each! Everyone should have at least 3 super-power computers, anyway. You're just a poor ol' luddite if you don't have 3 kick-ass machines to work and play with. Oh, god - I need a shower. ![]() |

My "dream" PC of before was just me trying to be realistic. But here's what my real PC might look like:
A number of these, in various RAID arrays, as well as for external backup purposes (Read: Images of my multiple TB system) Probably need a few U320 controllers for that. Two Opteron 2 GHz and 4 of these Corsair ECC twin packs for 8 sticks (4 GB) total installed in this Tyan board. An expensive video card that's overkill for my needs. A soundcard with S/PDIF output into a 7.1 audio system worth at least $30,000; I really like the Klipsch reference series floorstanding speakers. ![]() Video output would be into a similarly priced projector. ![]() Kenwood 72x CD-ROM, which I believe is no longer being made. And of course a DVD-ROM and DVD+/-RW. All housed in this heatsink of a case with included 300W PSU. The included 300W passively cooled PSU should be plenty right? ![]() Oh yeah, and a floppy drive. ![]() Ok, so I really just want a Cray supercomputer. |

![]() I have 2 high end PCs, which are supposed to be for games networked with my iMac. The kids fight over the iMac every day, go figure! Amen-Moses |

We have just one of them at work which stores ALL our debug data for a 400+ processor network in real time (it's an Air Traffic Control system), never misses a beat and never fails. Doesn't play PC games but it will run Linux so anything ported ... Amen-Moses |

But I was trying to still keep it within the realm of desktops. Then again, why not just have a server room like you described in your basement and use a wireless keyboard and mouse, and long enough cables for video and audio...? ![]() |

![]() Mind you at this time of year the Pentiums in my living room seem to do a similar job. Amen-Moses |

IBM 360s, VAX and PDP-11s - those were the days. Ummm, Hollerith cards, dropping off stacks of them at the "batch window" in the computing center, control cards, waiting to pick up the output for hours . . . .
cheers, Michael |
