Since the oldest ms of AJ is, I believe, from the 10th century, almost 1,000 years after the events at issue; and since the earliest ms of Luke is only several centuries after the events at issue, why should we accept Josephus's version over Luke's? A couple ambiguous inscriptions shouldn't tip the scales given the vast age disparity between the two ms traditions.
Are there any other contemporary or near contemporary texts that support Josephus chronology? If not, there seems to be some unsupported privileging going on. |
