This part really bothered me “Nonetheless, atheists take an equally large leap of faith by not believing in a god.? I emailed the editor to set them straight. I said (in many more words) that it basically takes the same leap of faith not to believe in god as it does for someone not to believe that invisible pink unicorns are running around that no one can see, even if people said that invisible pink unicorn can send you to hell if you don’t believe in them. The difference is there is actually theoretical evidence against the existence of god (at least a perfect or all powerful one). I also said that most theists would believe in god if presented with REAL evidence of it being true. “For the more extreme atheists who believe that their afterlife is as worm food? I thought most atheists believe this (well non religious ones)? Every single one I have talked to does. I don’t see how it’s extreme (unless you’re religious). To me saying people burn for eternity because they don’t believe some guy in some book. You can molest children and do anything you want but once you’re forgiven by asking for forgiveness you go to heaven. This to me seems very extreme yet most of the US seems to believe it. |
