Lightbulb This is why...

...I find the Christian mindset bankrupt.

Pastor wounded in Iraq: Jesus with us in the storm

From the article ~

Quote:
"Some reporters have said to me, have you asked God why John Kelley, and not you? I tell them no. Somewhere down the road, Ill begin to understand what happened and why it happened."
and:

Quote:
"We had a humvee in front, a humvee in back, and a helicopter overhead," he said. "Thats what Jesus is -- hes with us in the storm."
Hmmm...Jesus arrived to help at precisely the same time the humvees and helicopters got there...how convenient.

Quote:
"There are in Iraq 1 million Christians by nationality," he told reporters. "We werent proselytizing. The opportunity came because of the invitation of some Iraqi Christians. An opportunity came up, and I thought God wanted me to go. If the same circumstances arise again, Ill go."
I call horseshit.

Here's my evidence:

Quote:
At Kelleys church, worshippers are using the media attention to spread a Christian message. An interview with one church member has been broadcast on more than 200 Christian radio stations across the country.

DiVietro told his congregation he plans to do the same thing in Franklin.

"The Lord has given Grace Baptist Church national notoriety," he said. "We want the real story told: Behold the lamb of God, which takes away the sins of the world."
Christians already know that story...so who exactly is he spreading the "word" to?

He was right about one thing:

Quote:
He admitted the trip to Babylon was poorly planned, and blamed that decision on "the arrogance of Americans."
Refer back to "I thought God wanted me to go".

Jesus came and calmed the storm for him, but sat by and watched another Christian paster go down. I guess that other guy was lacking in true faith, or maybe full of bad karma.

But why is nonsense like this allowed to go unchallenged:

Quote:
"Im so glad that aspect of liberation was in someones heart," said Luann Hand of Westboro. "The people in that country knew nothing of God until they were liberated."

"The only way to bring peace to Iraq is through the gospel of Jesus Christ -- the preaching of the gospel changes hearts," added Jerry Stearns of Franklin.

Translation: "We won't allow peace in Iraq until they convert to Christianity."

Maybe the other guy was so faithful that God just couldn't wait any longer to call him up to heaven. Of course, that would mean the Iraqi attackers were God's tools every bit as much as the American helicopters.

When I was a fundy, I did some mission work inside the United States, and it was always at the invitation of Christians in the regions I visited. But all we did was proselytize the whole time we were there. We had very limited contact with the churches we helped. Our effort was aimed at people outside the church, not in it.

From the Boston Herald's story:

'Grace of God': Minister back with flock after surviving Iraq attack

Quote:
Several members of his congregation yesterday said they had no doubt that God had shielded their amiable pastor from harm.

"I'm just so thankful the Lord watched over him,'' said Kimberly Beauregard.
I wonder if the dead pastor's congregation is cursing the Lord for hanging him out dry? Maybe he wasn't really a True Christian [TM]?

At least the pastor gives some credit for saving his life to the islamic cab driver.

At least the pastor gives some credit for saving his life to the islamic cab driver. Thars hope in dem thar hills yet!!!

When the hubbub dies down and we realise how close we have been, our ignorance sometimes shocks the nonsense we believe in into better shape!!!? But is there really a ray of hope here?
Will he just slide back into those lazy old ways, was there really a shaft of light shining momentarily into his brain. I doubt it as the old habit of judging a book by its cover is bound to return. But then in fairness, he should ask himself, are all non Christians heathens!!!
