But you bring up a good point though. When Jesus says:

He is talking about the physical outer shell of the temple. A spelaion is a cave, grotto or cavern.

And then if we suppose that the narrative might originally have been set c. 12 BCE doesn't the strange interest in the term 'son of God' make better sense too?
