Default Politics VS Philosophy

Are politics driven by philosophies?
Or do you think philosophies are driven by politics?

I believe politics are driven by personal philosophies, and that you can't convince people to be apart of your political party or that you deserve your rights without a philosophical case.

What do you think?

I agree. Philosophy describes what type of relationship ought to exist between persons in a social setting. It is the function of politics to create the rules of behavior required to accomplish this. Politics is the application of man’s individual ethics in a social setting. It is the function of a proper governing policy to submit society to the requirements of mans individual freedoms. Man must not be submitted to the whim of another man (slavery) nor to a group of such men (socialism).

Does a river determine the shape of its banks, or does the riverbank determine the shape of the river?

An effect requires its cause. Cause is an action idea. The river bank is not an example of an action but the flowing river is. Therefore the action of the flowing water in the river cuts its banks from the earth. The banks did not exists prior to the waters presence.

Very well put, UncleJim.

In that scenario, the river determines the shape of the bank, the foundation is cut by the water, the philosophy cut by the politics - if consider philosophy to be our foundation as I do that.

Bush was a Christian before he became a governor, and later a president. His politics are driven by his philosophy. You can't make political ground without first making philosophical ground; why should we care, why are my views right, why should you care about my views, etc.

My politics are driven by my philosophy.

I can't speak for others' politics.
