Back to the topic. . . .

Soul Invictus:

Almah:

As I plow through Levenson's book, I hit the Synoptics last night. Interestingly, the idea of a "virgin birth" has parallels to all of the other "beloved sons" of the OT--they are all "miracles" as being produced by "barren" women: Isaac to Sarah, Jacob to Rebekah, Joseph to Rachel, even Samson and Samuel.

Quote:
The New Testament equivalent of this Israelite notion of the birth of the beloved son to a barren woman is the story of the virgin birth of Jesus (Matt 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38), an idea whose prominence in later Christian dogma obscures the fact that it seems to have been unknown outside Matthew and Luke. In the former, the idea is midrashically linked to Isa 7:14, which speaks of a "young woman" ('alma) giving birth to a son named "Immanuel." The midrash in question seems to depend upon the Septuagint rendering of 'alma as parthenos, a Greek word that often denotes a virgin (Matt 1:22-23).

The point is, the virgins are not cherries. That is misleading. The basic principle is that the Virgin Mary spent many nights in bed with Joseph and Jesus had brothers and sisters as a result of their sexual activity. The authors intentionally mislead fundie readers into believing that Mary was a cherry for life.
You can talk about mythology and you can search all you want for a deeper meaning, but, the point is you need to read in metaphor.

But Mary is a cherry for life and Jesus has many brothers and sisters and that is why we should never worship Jesus because we, too, are to be brothers and sisters of Jesus and to realize this we must have Mary as our very own mother who is to become our bride after Coronation . . . which is after assention and assumption, of course. That is exactly why she is perpetual virgin and she is to be used and abused by each of us without end but only at our own time, which [perhaps for our own good] is not ours to chose. I once read that she's witty, she's wily and she's blue but not unlike the color of our own native hue (different apparitions will confirm this). She therefore is ours or we are hers for as long as she is not ours. So here we go again, with the virgin concept: she ours unless we are hers.

The mislead is already made when we set Jesus apart as God instead of letting him be just the example for us to follow. This also means that we must not deny Jesus in any way but also not grant him anymore than is rightfully his.

Would 'reyacha' (fellow Jew) not be an example of such?

Is this for me? I don't know 'reyacha' but no fellow Jew is a brother of Jesus because Jews are sinners and Jesus remained without sin. Joseph was the Jew and Jesus bore the sins of Joseph's world (called the "sins of the world") to Calvary. The sins of his world were depicted in the image of a cross because they had become a burden to Joseph (hence his census account at Bethlehem) and therefore was his ego (as the primary cause of sin) crucified on it.

Hi Gurder, I would say none of the above but a cherry for life means that she can be picked for the rest of our life. I base this on Mary being in charge of our soul and if we can find the courage to go by the intuit memory of our soul we will have a surprise every day.

Amos, I do nor have a soul. I am an atheist. Mary ain't in charge of me. In Jubilees GOD said, "And I will Love you." And I say, GOD, Kiss my ass! I am closer to Our Father who art in Heaven that the Deity GOD. BTW, I am not to close to him either. Jesus' Father who was his priest and not his daddy. Go THOR!!!!

Hi Amos...

Are you equating the Virgin Mary with the soul?

Hi Luise, no not with the soul itself but just the person who is in charge of our soul (if that makes sense). I mean we all have a soul so in that sense are we all the same but our conscious access to this vast celestial sea requires that we first gain entrance upon it and this is what the virgin rebirth is all about. The wedding in Cana (Jn.2) shows how we meet her as our very own and right after that religion itself is abandonned as a thing of our past ("The Cleansing of the Temple" is placed there to show that religion is to be a means to the end and no more).

In the song "Immaculate Mary" she is "the land of our birth" and "the land of our birth" is our "Thousand Year" intuit heritage memory. We also have a painting called "Journey to Bethlehem" wherein Mary is in charge of the donkey (the body human) while poor old defeated Joseph (the old ego) is dragging his ass behind the donkey now into the land of his birth where he does give an account of himself by means of rebirth (Joyce holds that Joseph was "pregnant with despair"). Gorgeous piece of art and this is to be juxtaposed with their "Triumphant Journey into the New Jerusalem" (another painting) where dapper Joseph is now shown to as much as drag the donkey and Mary into the New Jerusalem (cf. Christmas and Easter).

Mary is a million things but most and foremost she is the womb of man where things that really count are taken to heart. In Gen.3 she is in charge of the Tree of Life (our soul) and saw that the Tree of Knowledge (conscious mind) was good for gaining food, wisdom and beauty. In the end she is actually the reason why humans can adapt and compete in a changing environment (she's RNA that modifies our DNA).

James Mille has an interesting exposition of Mary (Almah) in "A Strange Manuscript Found in a Copper Cilinder."

We actually have her do all sorts of things and in the Loretta Litany she is in charge of the angels. This kind of means that she is in charge of the HS and the descend of the dove also indicates that the HS is redundant after we meet her, etc.
