Do you happen to remember which textbook it was? Title, author(s)/editor(s), publisher, that sort of thing?

I've been racking my brain. I know the book exactly. It was a large, gray volume that I donated to the library sale last year. It was multi-authored, published some time around 1970. I believe it was just called "History of Civilization". It wasn't Brinton, Christopher, and Wolff, which I still have on my shelf. But I can't bring in the names of the authors of the other text.
