There should be official governmental fines for using too many exclamation marks.

Property is a contractual relationship between people. Capitalists try to maintain that property is, in fact, a relationship between a person and an inanimate object. This is mere silliness.
Property is correctly defined as a relationship between people vis a vis the inanimate object. In other words, if you "own" a house, the fact of "ownership" has no impact on the house whatsoever. Instead, it allows you to have authority over other people vis a vis the house. If unauthorized people try to sleep in your house, you could have them arrested. Given this fact, there is no a priori reason that "YOUR PROPERTY" should not be taxed. Since the social contract in most countries these days includes an income tax, that tax is no more immoral or uncontractual than the fact that you can kick people out of your house. Property is no more than a contract between people. If you "own" land along a lake, you might be contractually obligated to allow people to walk along the bank of the lake. If you earn money, you might be contractually obligated to give some of it to the government. If you want to argue that income taxes are bad for society, meritocrat, go for it. But to simpy say it's "MY PROPERTY" is to say nothing at all. |

I am almost certainly on the opposite side of the issue than you. I grew up poor in the US (which is much better than growing up poor in some other countries). Public K-12 school gave me a bit of a start. BS at a state university gave me a good lead. MS at a state university gave me an even better start. Without taxes to support such things, I would be nothing but another poor person (and paying very little in taxes). This is not even getting into the issue of the roads that make commerice possible, let alone the knowledge the food I eat is by and large safe. I worked hard for my position in life and I work hard for my money. However, as a part of a society, I have responsibilities I must serve in that society. Simian |
