G'day
What is the religious content of Freemasonry? It is certainly consistent with a wide range of Protestant cults, and the problem with Catholics and Freemasonry seems to be a matter of obedience rather than belief. Kipling wrote about Sikh, Hindu, and muslim masons, but I have heard it suggested that a mason has to believe in [a certain interpretation of] the divine inspiration of the building of the Temple of Solomon (an Old Testament event of archaeologically little significance). Can a polytheist be a Mason? Or a Buddhist? What about a Deist? An agnostic? An atheist? Have we any Masons on the IIDB? What about ex-Masons? Care to describe your de-conversions? Regards, Brett |

I'm not one, although I see their tables at civic events. Too much memorization for my taste, although the social connections might come in handy.
I found a web site that says that all that's required is a belief in a supreme being (here) The Sacred Texts Archive has some public domain books on freemasonry as well ISTA Other than that, not much I can say. I'm sure more people will answer with more information. Edit - Hi! Just say your Hero post and thought how odd. Glad to see another on this board. |
