I'm not really here posting; it's just that the board was flaking out on me upforum.

If I were to resume posting about CF it would have an adverse effect on my store of charity, which already is quantified by an imaginary number.

I had an idea of what it was, and I knew it didn't have anything to do with Jesus. That was enough for me.

On a similar note, I never got into the whole "Let's make Christianity cool and hip, kids!" It just seems like one of those things that cannot be infused with a modern sense of 'cool.' It's the same thing as when some chucklehead raps about Ancient Egypt or sings a rock song about the Constitution. It's just... stupid.

Not to say religion is bad or anything, but... you know.

In the meantime, Erwin has kindly provided us all with an Ignore option for those times when we feel uninterested in other members views.
I repped her earlier in the thread or I'd rep her for that. I don't dislike DrSteve but I find some of his ideas about shutting down discussion...well...draconian.

I've never understood "Christian rock". It's an attempt to bring two extremely separated worlds together. IMHO, a rock group isn't a rock group if they haven't spent a considerable amount of their existence in rehab. :Cheeky:

I don't think it's based in fantasy. A "who's who" of genuinely mean posters at CF gets you an awful lot of literalists and conservatives, and a smattering of liberals.

Now, I don't think that statistic generalizes very far, and I think the reasons for it are complicated. But there's a definite correlation, and for someone who's been on CF for a while, the generalization is certainly not based in fantasy, even if it's incorrect.

Heh.
Bouncer: "Three track-mark minimum, sir. Sorry."
Garth Brooks: "Aw, man..."
:Cheeky:

I spent all night once trying to find the song from the commercial to "The Transporter 2", only to discover it was a poorly made Christian rap song by Toby Mac. Gag. Good chorus, stupid everything else. Any group that refers to Jesus as "the long haired wizard in the desert" who "got down" deserves to be slapped.

I'm going to have to argue against your sample size seebs, and the temperment of many people who like to debate on message boards.

I could take a "Who's who" of IIDB and find the meanest people, and it would get me an awful lot of non-Christians. What does that mean? Nothing.
CF is a board with mostly fundamentalist Christians, so it only stands to reason that most of the mean people will be from the "majority group."

Also, a lot of people just like to debate anonymously, and can often get quite vicious, regardless of their beliefs. When you make a judgement on all the mean fundies you run across on the internet, you are excluding all the wonderfully kind fundies who don't bother with message boards, but are helping out at church or busy playing with their kids.

In other words, the reality is that CF is a skewed and very small sample of fundamentalist Christians.

I agree with both of you. Fundies I've encountered outside of the net can go either way. Although truthfully, I've only met one atheist who was actually nasty about his belief system. I ran into more than a few fundies (of various religions) that were jerks. I don't make any broad judgements over it, though.

Someday, when I'm rich and powerful, I'm going to invent the "Punch-in-the-face-O'-matic." When you are being a jerk to others in the net behind the veil of anonymity, a boxing glove pops out of your keyboard and gives you a good, well deserved real-time sock in the mouth.

That oughta solve it.
