Yuck. I hope you don't die or get maimed just to enrich a few petty capitalists. I hope your contribution to the evil that is the United States war machine is miniscule.

Just remember to shut the fuck up, do what they tell you, and don't do anything they didn't tell you to do.

That's about all you need to make it through basic; it worked for me, although only after I figured it out the hard way. Good luck dude :notworthy

Well, Basic is just a mind game, so don't let it get it you. Good luck and do us proud, soldier!

Oh, and now that you're military you could join MAAF. Forums here. Tell 'em Shake sent you!

Anyway, good luck again, and stay safe!

May I suggest you changed it for Christian? I don't know where you're going to end up for your tour of duty, but from what I've read, there are certain places in the world where you don't want to be identified as an atheist. Extremist muslims, for example, are known to find us even worst than Christians (who, at least, "believe in something"...)

Smoke? Donuts? Drinks?

Damn, you doggies have it soft.

Marines: No tobacco products, ever, in boot camp. No sodas or drinks, you get water or bug juice. Candies/sugar snacks, maybe in the chow line once in a while. Breaks? Not likely. If you find yourself with "free" time, you stand at parade rest or sit cross legged and read the green monster.

Have fun in Ft. Silly! :Cheeky:

A friend of mine used to do weekend drills up there during his time in the Marine Reserves.

Last I heard, the only beer there is the 3.2 "near beer." So you might want to take the opportunity to drink some real beer before you head out.

Good luck and be careful!

Thanks everyone. I'm going into 13 Bravo, which is Field Artillery. I originally wanted either intel or journalism, but there's no way my family would pass the background check for intel, and I didn't pass the security clearance for journalism (marijuana use). So, as an alternative I decided to go out and blow shit up. I'm good with math and physics, so I should find myself mildly entertained by the job I get. I hate the idea of killing people, but let's face it, I'm killing fundies. If I had to pick a target, I couldn't think of a better one.

Cynical-Chick, I'll find a computer on base during my personal time and I'll email you my address.

As for the comment about the dog tags, I know the nutbags treat infidels badly, but hey... If something does happen, no one will be able to deny my lack of faith.
