Default Document shows bin Laden was at Tora Bora, eluded capture

Bush and Cheney of course claimed during the prez campaign last year that the U.S. didn't have any actual knowledge that bin Laden was at Tora Bora. I bet if it was Michael Schiavo hiding in those caves they would have found him toot-sweet.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7272418/

Quote:
A commander for Osama bin Laden during Afghanistan’s war with the Soviet Union who helped the al-Qaida leader escape American forces at Tora Bora is being held by U.S. authorities, a government document says.

The document represents the first definitive statement from the Pentagon that bin Laden, the mastermind of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, was at Tora Bora and evaded his pursuers.

President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney asserted during the presidential election that commanders did not know whether bin Laden was at Tora Bora when U.S. and allied Afghan forces attacked there in December 2001. They dismissed assertions by Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, that the military had missed a chance to capture or kill bin Laden while al-Qaida made a last stand in the mountainous area along the Pakistan border.
Easily explained by Chimpo.

This tidbit will find its way, if at all, to page 12 of most fishraps. The front page will be filled with Michael Jackson, people bringing cups of water to the hospice in Florida, and other "newsworty" events of the day.

Sadly, I truly believe it is no longer "news" to run a story indicating that the present administration was dishonest. It's happened so many times now, on graver subjects, that no one seems to bat an eye at these things anymore.

Even back in 2002 the public information was both plentiful and decisive.

Bin Laden was giving major speeches in Jalalabad, rallying the forces and paying money to the leaders at Tora Bora.

If the Christian Science Monitor can make detailed interviews of eyewitnesses and compile such comprehensive reports as above - then either our intelligence agencies are exceptionally incompetent or (duh) Bush and Cheney lied their asses off. Both?
