Towns change, and there has been no evidence until now about what life was like in the first century CE, the century of Jesus' upbringing. The Christian gospels contain too much myth of the city.
So now we know they used pots to hold water in, and not their hands?

That's amazing! It's like I'm right there at the time of Jesus and now I feel Like I really know who he was.

A Christmas miracle indeed!

Archeological evidence of the 1st century CE is not sparse -- about this particular town, if it existed, there is little evidence, but I really doubt that the excavation of a single house is going to add that much to the archaological library of information about first century roman-influenced towns.

My objection is to the hype of "where Gabriel visited Mary...." and all that twaddle. It's interesting enough on its own as a discovery.

Ah, ignore me. I'm just royally annoyed at the History channel doing shows where they talk about the Ark, Noah, the Tower of Babel, and Jesus as if they all are totally and obviously true. Gah.

There is actually a significant amount of cultural information that can be gleaned from pots. Don't talk as if you have never been to a museum.

You think Jesus, the offspring of the Holy Ghost, made one of the pots?

I don't think carpenters made pots.

Oh, I forgot, look for the pot with the wine residue, the one from the wedding where he turned water into wine.

You mean this one?

Archaeologist says she's found site of Jesus' first miracle: More conclusive proof needed, others say

Metropolis is a small town in Illiinois. It started in 1839, one hundred years before the Superman comic book became popular. For the past twenty years it has been known as the hometown of Superman. It is not like the major city that is described in Superman comics. It has only a population of 6,000. However, this should not stop anybody from believing that Superman is a historical character, as the writers of early Superman stories obviously exaggerated many things about him, as his legend grew. . .
What would be even odder would been skeptics two thousand years from now arguing that Superman is a fictional character. . . not because he had superpowers, but because the town he allegedly grew up in did not exist when he was a child

They would be arguing over the existence of the historical Clark Kent behind the Superman myth, and whether the historic Metropolis existed.

So if I could find a reporter called Clark Kent, that would mean there was a historical person behind Superman - Superman would then become as real a person as Popeye, or Sherlock Holmes, both of whom were based on real people?

Are you therefore implying that there are no such things as fiction characters once they are based on some human characteristics and given a name?

Perhaps Superman would have been considered historical if it was claimed that Clark Kent actually lived on Mars as a child.
