Geez, Wyz, been cranky lately?

I don't get the "genius" of:

~Dave Matthews Band
~Radiohead
~Forrest Gump
~1984. Read half, found it dry and lacking
~Scarlett Letter. Though this is probably because I read it in 11th grade English, and had to thoroughly discuss ALL SYMBOLISM in the damn thing.

O_o

I'm watching Forrest Gump, there's a Dave Matthews CD in my computer, and a copy of 1984 by my bed. *That's* spooky.

Ayn Rand
I didn't understand the genius of Ayn Rand until earlier this year when I wrote an essay on one of the books for some contest, and had to really look at it. Then I got it. =P

Wheel of Time I never really understood the "genius" of. I'll stick with Tolkien.

And, I'm ashamed to admit it, Monty Python's "Time Bandits". I, for no apparent reason, just don't get the humour of the movie. Some parts, like the Napolean scenes, are amusing, but the rest I just never got.

NIRVANA

Sure, they revolutionized music, but I still say it sucks.

:boohoo:

Movies: Gone with the Wind (started twice, fell asleep both times, never even attempted to read the book)

Books: the Harry Potter series (OK, read only the first one: booooooring!)

Music: hip-hop in general (EDIT: Oh, yes, Nirvana, I forgot.)

Films: Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now, The Godfather series, The Seventh Seal, Ran, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Schindler's List.
Novels: Tom Jones, Ulysses, The Lord of the Rings, One Hundred Years of Solitude.

Of course, I'm not so arrogant to think that the fault lies entirely with the artist!

And Tolkien agrees with me

Books:
~ To Kill a Mocking Bird - Very dry
~ Catcher in the Rye - I thought the kid was a brat and wanted to beat the crap out of him
~ Lord of the Flys - Talk about over the top, also another wanted to beat the crap out of them moment

Movies:
~ Godfather

I like Nirvana though...but something may just be in my water considering I'm in Seattle.

I second (or third) The Scarlet Letter. I cringe when I think that I read this book.

Anything by James Joyce. Personally, I think the guy's simply incomprehensible, and people pretend to understand his shit to appear smart.

William Faulkner--I couldn't plow through The Sound and the Fury to keep a hot poker out of my eye.

Stanley Kubrick--Ok, Strangelove, and 2001 ASO were great, but anyone who made A Clockwork Orange, and that Kidman/Cruise piece of crap doesn't deserve to be called bright, much less a genius.

The Doors. They were a good band, not an outstanding band. Jim died. I get it.

The Beatles. Let the goddamn religion die already. John was just a freaking hippie married to a nasty woman. He was not f---ing Ghandi!!

William Butler Yeats. Yawn. Why do people always say Keats in the same breath as Yeats, anyway? Is it just because of The Smiths?
