Default A few months ago I saw a tv prog

Which I think was on the BBC, and may have been a Horizon.

It was a pretty much conclusive demolition of 'The Da Vinci Code'.

But in it said, as I rember, they said that not only were there folk tales of Jesus surviving the cross and going west, there were also folk tales of him surviving the cross and going east.

And they cited a case, that I wish I could remember more clearly.

There is a tradition somewhere, the programme said, (Afghanistan? Somewhere like that) that Jesus went ot the East after the ge of 12, and came home when he was about 30. During that time he absorbed Eastern religious influeces, meditative techniques and stuff. He survived the cross and went back there, the tradition says. As a local religious leader. And there remains an old church to him, with a tomb with an effigy on top of it. The effigy has marks of the cross on it. They showed a picture of this, which had convincing cross marks, and suggested that the dating fitted.

Does anyone know anything about this? If so, should it be taken seriously?

David B (tends to believe that Jesus was a historical charactor)

I think it was India and, IMO, no.

Here is a previous thread on that subject:

Jesus in India

There was also a thread about Jesus in China but, IMO, the only thing worth remembering about it is the following "argument" for it that Vinnie located:

“Of course Jesus went to China! How the f**k you think that motherf***er learned Kung Fu?

Many thanks. And LOL!

Pity really - it would have been a good story.

It's probably an old tomb that dated to around the time of Jesus, and was dug up and reused as one of those medieval religious artifacts. The effigy and cross marks are in all probability medieval, judging from other cases like this (there was a tomb in France of the "Three Wise Men" that was similar- the bodies were real, but the association with the three wise men was medieval or late Roman in origin).

Jesus was buried in two different graves in Jerusalem (one Catholic/Orthodox, one Protestant). He was also buried in France, India, and even in Japan. Maybe he was Omnipresent after all.
