I was checking on my seeds and the majority of them have indeed cracked and the taproot has emerged from many of the seeds. I gave them another little sprits with the room temperature water, covered them gently and sprayed the top paper towels well. It’s been a couple of days since I started and I will give them some more time to develop prior to planting them in pots. I have my pots, soil and lights set to go.
My lights are up and I have two shelves below the lights. The upper shelf, like the lower shelf is secured to the wall. On the upper shelf I have another shelf the exact same size that is not secured to anything. I use that to raise and lower my pots, the overflow tray and the plastic chamber so I can get my plants as close to the lights as possible. I even have the overflow tray set up so it’s adjustable as well. Fluorescent lights lose their growing power the further away the plants are. The lights won’t burn the plants so I get them as close as I can, within inches. The chamber is made out of dry cleaner plastic, wrapped around a set of metal legal size hanging folder frames. I started the plastic under the frames, wrapped it around back, over the top, covering each end and it hangs down the front, for easy access. The plastic is 6? longer in the front so it will overhang the top shelf that is secured to the wall. On the bottom shelf I have secured the old monitor as close as possible to the shelf above, with the screen facing the wall. The heat from he monitor will rise from the vent and the extra plastic will guide the heat up, into the nursery chamber. The thermometer shows it’s a cozy 82F. This will keep my babies warm when I transplant them from the plates that are now on the monitor, to the nursery. Qwiz |

The soil I’m using is a light organic potting soil. No added
fertilizers are needed at this time, as these chemicals can be harsh on the young seedlings. Prior to planting day I loaded up the 4? pots with the soil so they were ¾ full and kept the potting soil loose and didn’t compact it. The pots have drainage holes in the bottom, which is important. I placed my pots in the overflow tray a couple of days prior to planting. I poured water in the tray and let the pots soak up the water to the point where the soil is damp but not muddy. This way I can judge when the conditions are right to plant my germinated seeds. Many times plants die from over watering and it is better to under water rather than over water. This will avoid root rot, which could be fatal. A little under watering from time to time will promote root growth as the roots will extend to search for water. The bigger the roots get the bigger the plants will get. I like to let the water sit in an open container or pail for at least 24hrs, to let the chlorine evaporate. I try my best to reproduce the growing conditions to what Mother Nature would produce within reasonable limits. I grab the plate with my germinated seeds and uncover them from the paper towel. I fill the pot to the top with the potting soil. I spoon out some of the soil from the pots to make a hole and use tweezers to gently pick the germinated seeds up. The seeds are placed in the loose soil no deeper than ½? to ¼? from the surface, taproot down. I use tweezers to place the seeds in the hole because as soon as you drop the seeds in they fall taproot up. I spoon the dry soil in over the seed and give it a little spray to start it off. I give them just enough moisture to wet the seed. I place the overflow tray back in the chamber and let the warmth and lights do their thing. Qwiz |

As none of the last 3 posts have anything to do with politics, I'm moving this thread to MD.

Is there an easy way to get the seeds other than finding a drug dealer and buying them off him? I assume it's still illegal to sell it once it's been decriminalized, but it would be interesting to grow some like a chia pet.

Your best bet outside of head shops would be finding a friendly grower and asking them to just give you some. |

The seed banks in my area have all gone mail order. I have
no idea why 'cause seeds are legal here in Canada. Yes, in BC you can get them over the counter. Montreal too. Mark Emery .com has a great reputation and he sends them all over the world in plain envelopes. They sell from $40CDN for 10 seeds, up to hundreds per seed. You can start with "bagseed". Nothing wrong with that... I advise you not to ask around for people's "extra seeds" it can lead to questions. As for dealers? I hate "hooking up". Those days are over for me. If I want some I'll open another Mason Jar. I don't sell or trade. It's just personal use. Qwiz |

I have to say it is a myth that pot is safe. Pot is no more safe than Heroin. Mark my word in a few years Heroin will be legal all over Canada. They already started with the injection clinics.

The overwhelming majority of heroin deaths are due to unknown ratios in the cutting of the drugs. Users don't know how much they're getting in one shot, so they end up getting surprised and overdosing. Heroin when done safely and in consistent dosage isn't more dangerous than caffeine. Aside from the addiction aspect, of course. And this is why heroin needs to be legalized and regulated in Canada (NOT just decriminalized), we're at the end of our rope here in Vancouver with a real world-class heroin problem. Pulling the rug out from under the criminals and putting it into the hands of the government would save countless lives. I could address your apparent ignorance regarding pot more specifically, but it sounds like you just generally need to educate yourself a bit on the subject. |
