[Counter rant]I actually work for the "dark side" as it were. The question is far to vague to answer, and NO insurance policy is that cut and dry. There are provisions and exclusions and requirements involved.
Too many idiots out there seem to think that insurance is a "god given right" of some sort. I've only met about twenty people in my entire life who even comprehend insurance, and there are over 20,000 people working for my company.[/Counter rant] Edited to add: I'm waiting for the flood of self righteous indignation.... ![]() |

People just don't look out for their future. We just had a meeting today about 401k's. I had a mouse for HR. She wasn't at her desk and her computer had work on the screen so I just left the mouse (she's competent to install it herself) on her desk. In noting that her computer was busy I saw what was on her screen--a spreadsheet of 401k contribution levels. Quite notable were a couple that said "Declined"--for people making decent money. |

Just kidding, actually, but I do take issue with the idea that anybody who thinks insurance is a god-given right is an idiot. I think there is a VERY valid debate about whether or not a society like ours "ought" to be able to guarantee all citizens some basic level of medical care. Not only in the interest of the individual, but in the interests of others, of the society, etc. I certainly wouldn't call people on either side of that debate idiots, as it is a tough ethical question. Well, maybe it's easy ethically, but not so easy practically. In any case, if there are so few people, according to you, that truly understand health insurance, then how come everyone that is under the impression that it is a god-given right is an idiot? If ti's so hard to understand, one might reasonably expect significant and widespread misunderstanding about it, eh ![]() I think most of us comprehend insurance enough to know that when we really need it, it won't be there for us. That it's really more like the mafia. You pay them to protect yourself from crooked people who are, surprise, actually them. Or is that just MY experience? ![]() |
