You have imagination that's for sure. You are actually quoting Athanasius poetically arguing that the Sun - i.e. the Logos - turned from Arius's doctrine.

Wake up. Your theory is laughable.

This opinion that Athanasius is citing Arius, and that here Arius copied a letter of Marcus concerning the "Passion of Julius Caesar" is not mine. It occurs elsewhere, for example see this SAMPLE SOURCE ARTICLE

....

also see the thread entitled Did the sun turn away from Jesus and recalling his rays make that day sunless?
mountainman admits error here and his source, Carotta on the divusjulius blog, will retract the allegation.

I believe that you are in no position to argue anything about Arius. Neither you, nor anyone else, knows anything about Arius, save what has been written against his fundamental teaching, namely, that God's existence preceded that of his son, a notion entirely consistent with human reproductive mechanics.

It was for Moses who's hair changed color which was yet another condition of being that changed instead of the being itself trans-formed. Note that the topic here is form and not illusion.

Some people came to believe some things for which they had insufficient evidence. It isn't just a religious thing. It happens all the time to all people, not excepting those of us who pride ourselves on our skepticism.

So we should.....unh....just feel sorry for the poor mistaken Christian's who have tortured and murdered millions because of that mistake?
When does the time come for honest men to disassociate themselves from the 'mistake' and its bloody consequences?
Honestly, I cannot see why any sane individual would want to counted as a part of these mistaken and murderous religions.
How in the hell, given well known Christian history, can any kind and rational person want to be associated with such a vile, evil movement.

The earliest manuscripts of much of Plato's works are from 890 CE. Therefore, Plato is a product of 890 CE

Is Plato also a creation of Constantine?
No but it allows for the possibility as it does in other cases such as discussed by Avi.
Sometimes I wonder whether the athiest, agnostic positions held here are held with as much emotional power as those of the religious groups being discussed.

In defense of the Church let me say again that Catholics are not Christians and not even close (as [every] Baptist will concur), and also that they are not part of the great commision, never were and never will be. Furhter, that the Inquisitor was on duty for the protection of society and not the Church for they knew how dangerous people can be with their eyes 'half opened,' while yet their fervor is needed to nurse the lamb. . . to say that metamorphosis is a natural event can be encultured but requires guidance by those in the know.

There certainly is enough evidence to suggest that Arius was not some asshole who just went along with a recently made up religion.
I, (and everyone else currently living on Planet Earth,) have no useful information about Arius, because everything substantive that he wrote was destroyed by Constantine.

Here's what little I think I know about him: his teacher, Lucian of Antioch, was from Libya, and was himself the originator of the theorem that Jesus was, by definition created by God, therefore there must have been a point in time when Jesus did not exist.

Arius was quite influential in providing instruction on the fundamentals of Christianity to Lord Constantine, BEFORE Constantine became Emperor. Arius' influence was even more pronounced with Constantine's second son, (his eldest having been murdered by Constantine), so that upon Constantine's death, there was a short interval, while the second son ruled as emperor, during which Arius' thought prevailed throughout the Roman Empire.

The faction fight in Alexandria over Arius' ideas was non-trivial. Constantine had been obliged to demand loyalty to Rome, and therefore to the Roman Trinitarian version of Christianity, in order to end the sectarian violence, which had been disrupting grain and meat exports to Rome. Nicea was not just about doctrine. It was also about getting the whole empire moving forward in unison.

Arius was then removed from his status as head of the Alexandria branch of the nascent church, and was excommunicated, briefly, but was reinstated into the Church, on orders of Lord Constantine himself.

A few years later, Arius was assassinated in Constantinople, then a thriving new city, constructed on orders of Constantine.

When I write that we on the planet earth know nothing about Arius' philosophy, I am simply pointing to a profound paucity of documentary evidence, authored by Arius, to assist us in the evaluation of his ideas.

Well that should put to rest the notion that you are some "disciple of Mountainman"

as per the following quote from Stephan Huller:
"Really. The disciple of mountainman makes his pronouncement. So your teacher's claim that Arius really 'knew' that everything about Jesus was made up and that he was somehow 'in on' the plot to make up this 'fake religion' doesn't need any supporting evidence. After all 'anything is possible' since we 'don't know anything about Arius.' "

To me, it is clear that AVI is no disciple of mountainman. :constern01:

I see I am now addressing the entire academy of mountainman. I should ask transient and avi if they address their learned master by any special titles when in his presence. I always like to observe proper protocol.
