Default Split from "Is it Epistemically Possible that 2+2=5?"

I wish there was a way I didn't receive e-mails telling me that someone had made an entry in this thread.

I could not imagine anyone would post more than five posts total on such a topic, but here it goes, on and on. Are you guys really interested in hashing and rehashing this very, very important earth-shaking topic?

I can't imagine it is the topic that is so interesting, so it must be the posturing of who has the biggest and strongest intellect. Is that right, do you think?

Pity for me is that I am trying very hard to let people live the life they want to live, post the posts they want to post, even if I do find it ridiculous. But one reaches a point where one must at least voice a concern.

I am giving you all notice that I am voicing a concern for your very souls, which I am sure you are in danger of losing to dry rot.

There is a way (or two):

1) Thread tools > Unsubscribe from this thread.

2) Control Panel > View all subscribed threads > check the "notification" box (right side of the screen) > Selected threads (bottom of the page): No email notification > Go.

Not really so Earth-shaking to me, though I find issues of possibility (metaphysical, epistemic, etc.) interesting. That said, the original matter for debate could be considerably more interesting to me if we had some clarification regarding what the poster who started the thread means.

But that aside, one can debate just for the fun of it.

That'd be a bit of a big claim ("biggest and strongest intellect" even if one "wins" the thread), but funnily enough, this seems so far one of the least confrontational threads on the boards, mostly focused to civil discussion rather than hitting "the other guy" with all the rhetorical artillery (not that that ever happens ).

For this thread?
That's surprising. You should take a look at one of the "free will" debates, or the EoG or MF&P thread.

Thank you very much for that. There is another thread that I have no interest in that keeps sending me notification. My life is now much more peaceful, thanks to you.

You know, I woke up this mornng thinking that maybe there was something you guys got out of it that I didn't see. Entertainment was one thing I thought might be it. That never occured to me before because I don't like to argue.

I had a friend that was always trying to argue with me and one day I saw him arguing with a friend and they both were visibly enjoying themselves. "Aha!" I says. "He enjoys arguing!"

I knew that if anybody got angry with what I said, that would kind of prove my point. Nobody likes the covers pulled off them when they think they got themselves pretty well hidden. You didn't get angry, therfore you knew what your motives were. Ipso facto. Q.E.D.

Again, thanks for explaining and the tip on how to stop the notifications.

Bless you, my child.

I like debating, discussing, etc., as long as it's civil.

The more hostile the tone becomes, though, the less I like it, and at some point I don't like it anymore. But this thread is quite civil, at least for now, so I keep posting.
