Much Eastern religious philosophy, Buddhism in particular, would disagree with you on this point. It is simple, as long as you have a soul you are not your soul and once you are one with your soul you no longer have a soul (they call this niratmya in Buddhism and we would say that the [celestial] sea is gone in the New heaven and earth).

To be both is to have on leg in heaven and one on earth. They call this 'midheaven' (not midst of heaen) in Rev.14:6 and read what follows after that . . . = hell on earth.
