Just did a little search and couldn't come up with anything about this. I just saw this book in a local bookshop and was wondering about buying it. It seems to say that the fully-fledged man-god of the NT should be seen purely as a literary creation, based on OT tropes, and that the quest for a historical Jesus is therefore kind of irrelevant. Seems to support the MJ idea to a limited extent.
Has anybody read this, any thoughts? |

I have his "Mythic Past" and found it very interesting indeed.

I wonder how much Thomas Thompson's case parallels Earl Doherty's; Earl Doherty also discusses Old Testament parallels in the Gospels.

IIUC (I haven't read the Messiah Myth myself) Thomas Thompson concentrates on the Gospels and has very little to say about Paul. Andrew Criddle |
